Here at My 1st Photos HQ we’re in a pretty unique position to be able to spot current baby name trends for 2019, as most of our customers choose to add their baby’s name to the front of their My 1st Photos fabric photo albums.  We have seen the weird, the wonderful and the downright gorgeous baby names this year!

We all love being part of a trend and baby names are no exception. Lately, we’ve noticed a huge baby name trend for, well, trends; whether that’s a surge of old-fashioned names or a rise in surnames as first names, these baby names are so on-trend, they’ve fallen into their very own! Read on to discover which name categories are really flying high in 2019!

Boys names with a nod to literature…

Our favourite trend for self-confessed bookworms.  If you love a hint of the romantic or historic, chances are you’ll adore these beautifully nostalgic boys’ names that are racing up the popularity chart. Whether you’re into childhood adventure tales, period dramas or classic romantic stories, we think you’ll agree that these character names make pretty powerful first names. A little bunch of heartbreakers!

  • Archibald
  • Barnaby
  • Bertram
  • Finn
  • Gulliver
  • Heathcliff
  • Huckleberry
  • Montgomery

Nicknames as first names…

Many nicknames have become so familiar to us now that it’s easy to forget which names they originally came from. These names are the ideal option for those who don’t want to go down the traditional name route, or if you prefer the shortened version to the full one. After all, if someone has a nickname, it’s usually used more frequently than their actual name anyway right? Just skip a step!

  • Ellie
  • Frankie
  • Kit
  • Lottie
  • Maggie
  • Teddy
  • Woody

Royal baby names…

What’s better than hearing news of a royal baby? We’ll tell you, the announcement of its name. Whilst the royals don’t usually steer too far away from family heritage when choosing what to name their babies, it’s the perfect point of reference for those who love traditional names and need inspiration for their very own royal arrival.

  • Archie
  • Charlotte
  • Elizabeth
  • George
  • Louis
  • Mia
  • Victoria

Surnames as first names…

Clearly none of these surnames were originally intended to be first names, but the trend has become so popular with expectant and new parents that soon we might not be able to differentiate between the two! These names are strong and, quite often, unisex too.

  • Bailey
  • Harper
  • Harrison
  • Hunter
  • Jackson
  • Parker
  • Taylor

Celebrity-inspired names…

Looking for a name that really stands out? No one does it better than a celebrity.  Why not go the whole hog and have a crazily over the top pregnancy reveal too?  Beyonce, we’re looking at you..!

  • Apple
  • Ariana
  • Bear
  • Blue
  • Dusty
  • Harper
  • Idris
  • Meghan
  • Miley
